USER RATINGS AND REVIEWS
Great Notebook from Acer.
I’ve only been using it for 24 hours, but so far everything seems to work well. I am quite pleased with Windows 7 Starter as well. I am a product manager for a large software company and have used several OS version. I hated Vista and was reluctant to go with Windows 7, but so far, I am not disappointed.
Pros:
- All the features for less $ (faster processor, bluetooth, web cam, 250HDD, WiFi b/g/n, extended battery)
- Windows 7 Starter
- Color combo is appealing
- Decent touchpad (better than the D150 series!)
- Extended battery does NOT extend under the laptop, but out the back, like most laptops.
Cons:
- The keyboard is smaller than comparable other netbooks. I wish the keys were bigger. It can be challenging to type. The Dell and HP mini’s have larger keys, but have the extended battery extend under the laptop. Not something I wanted to trade off for.
- The glossy case could be challenging to keep clean… not sure yet as it’s only been 24 hours.
Excellent machine.
Okay, since I am a college business major who doesn’t know a great deal about computers, here’s my 2 cents:
Pros:
1. Superb battery life: got 13 hours out of writing research papers on Word, generating excel reports, checking stocks, reading WSJ, managing portfolios, and etc.
2. Chiclet keyboard feels great to type on
3. Screen is bright enough
4. Sound quality is great comparing to other netbooks
5. Windows 7 runs pretty fast in my opinion
6. YOUTUBE & HULU VIDEOS RUN EXTREMELY SMOOTH! (not in HQ of course)
Cons:
1. Hate the glossy screen (there goes my eyesight)
2. Chiclet keyboard is a little loud comparing with the one on 1005HA
3. 6-cell battery can be somewhat heavy for the girls
4. Two-finger scrolling did not work for me, so I had to install an additional driver. URGH!
Bottom of the line, the Asus 1005PE is still the best on the market as of now.
Does more than what I thought it would.
Things I Liked About the 1005PE:

1. The keyboard. It’s much better than I expected. The keys bounce when I type, and I kind of like that. I wouldn’t call it flex, and frankly I don’t even understand what keyboard “flex” is anyway. I type fast and I write a great deal as part of my job, and if the keyboard were not comfortable, it would be the first reason to not buy the computer. They say the keyboard is 92% of a full size, and it feels that way or just a bit smaller. But it’s easy to type on and I love that.
2. The processor. The computer has been able to do everything I wanted. I have watched videos, listened to music, plugged in an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse, and I’ve even run several programs at one time. I do a lot of spreadsheet work and I’ve not used it for any of that, but I am now confident that it could do that reasonably well as long as I didn’t go crazy on the rows and columns.
3. The battery life. I love that the battery lasts as long as it does. It seems to be lasting 9+ hours for every charge.
What I didn’t like so much

1. The mouse. The mouse pad has bumps on it and I didn’t like that so much. I’d have preferred a little mouse nipple like I have on my Thinkpad X61. I hated that at first and got used to it. Don’t get me wrong: the mouse on the 1005PE works fine, and I’ve gotten used to it. And it was worth getting over for all of the other features.
2. No built in 3G. I’d love to have been able to have a PCI Express card slot or a built in 3G modem. As it stands, I have a USB modem for Verizon’s wireless broadband and it works great. It just adds one more piece of equipment that I have to carry around.
I looked at a ton of computers before I bought this one. I’m happy with what I got. I think it’s fair to say that for most, they’re going to want to have a separate computer if they do major work stuff, but I’ve found that I am able to do everything I need and I haven’t sacrificed any major performance to get it.
