Netbook Review: Acer Aspire One
Netbooks are really starting to grow in power. Ones such as the Acer Aspire One is a huge reason this evolution is taking place. While it may be small and compact, it still retains all of the features of a regular laptop. Actually the power and processing ability is the same as laptops that were top end a few years back.
But netbooks are not meant to be as powerful as their full sized counterparts, and they do not function at the same speed. But the minor trade off of power and speed is made up for greatly by its incredible portability. If you do the usual things like browsing the web, writing documents, or working on spreadsheets, you will be happy.
The Acer Aspire One can handle all these tasks easily with its 1.6Ghz atom processor. It’s not like the monstrous dual cores that Acer and some other companies have, but it still gives nice speed take care of all the basics.
With 512 MB ram, you can easily word process using Open Office Writer (which comes installed) and easily edit up to 500-page documents with no issues. There are some out there that even come with 1GB of RAM as well. Spreadsheets only take slightly longer to load than on most laptops. You usually won’t notice a huge difference between them.
This little netbook also has plenty of storage space for these documents as well. With the 8GB SSD hard drive, its a little small compared to most laptops, it can take a while to fill it up with something like documents.
But if you actually do get that much stuff onto the card, you can buy an SD card for the slot. Quality SD cards are becoming more and more cheaper every day, it won’t be hard to get an extra 16GB’s onto the computer. You can transfer big items quickly with this method.
There is also another SD slot that can be made to look like it is an internal hard drive, so it’s not that bad. You can also buy a 160GB harddrive version of the Aspire One for a slightly increased price.
It also comes with Linux Lite Operating System, which is very easy to use. But if getting away from Windows isn’t something you can do, there is also an option to use Windows XP.
While most netbooks can’t even run Youtube, the Aspire one can handle it just fine. Also with the 802.11g support, you will have no trouble with the connectivity. You can easily browse any site you wish using Firefox just like a normal laptop.
It’s always good to expect the best. The Acer Aspire One is not meant to be a quality high end laptop, but meant to still be good while being incredibly small. It’s only two pounds, sporting a 9.8X6.7X1.14 inch frame, and is incredibly small, lightweight, and light weight platform for normal use.
