Comparing Netbooks – Choosing the Right Netbook for You
When you are thinking about purchasing a netbook, you will find that it is not necessarily better than a desktop or a laptop; it is just better at doing what it does. A netbook is intended to be a computer that is carried along with you, so physical and functional portability are the name of the game.
Though the line between netbooks and lower-end laptops is getting progressively blurred, it is worth noting that the strength of netbooks is that they are sturdy enough to put up with the bumps and contusions that come with being dragged around. They are not meant to have the processing ability of laptops or desktops and though they are getting better all the time, it is important to remember what they are meant for!
The first thing that you should consider is what kind of hard drive you want in your netbook. If you chose a netbook that has a spinning hard drive, just like the hard drives that are found in your laptop or desktop, you will get more storage and more capacity in general. In addition, they tend to be cheaper. On the other hand, you will find that they weigh more, use up more power and are more likely to get damaged in transit. Your other option is to purchase a netbook with a solid state hard drive, most often abbreviated to SSD. An SSD has no moving parts and will cost more, but it will consume less power and weigh less. Consider how much you will be traveling and where your priorities are.
Next consider how many USB ports you are going to need. Some people find that they can get by with just one or two, while others would be faintly horrified by the idea of having fewer than three. USB ports will let you connect to everything from cameras to speakers to your mouse to a better monitor to a keyboard, so think seriously about how many you will need. Some people only occasionally hook up a mouse, while others actually love to turn their computers into more portable setups that might rival a desktop. What are your habits like?
There are quite a few netbook brands out there when you are choosing your netbook. Some of the more prominent ones include Dell, Samsung, ASUS, Acer, HP and MSI. Remember that when you want to get the netbook that is right for you, you should do your research and make sure that you get all the facts before you invest!
